Bridgeport Schools to Build Exercise Science Lab

Bridgeport Schools will construct a new exercise science center which is made possible from an endowment from Raymond Stewart, a 1954 Bridgeport graduate who loved science. This program will prepare students for potential careers in the medical field and exercise science fields.

Superintendent, Zac Shutler, informed Lance Tarr, Program Director/Chair of Wheeling Jesuit University's Exercise Science Program, of the new center and position opening, and Tarr stated, "I do appreciate a local school system initiating a commitment to educating youth in the science of exercise, its impact on health and well-being, as well as the hands-on educational benefits that labs advocate and enhance. Exercise is the closest thing we've found to a 'fountain of youth'. It is 'medicine' and needs to be 'dosed' properly in terms of frequency, intensity, time, and type. It is the very foundation of function, health, fitness, and performance."
