This course is designed to provide students with a working knowledge of computer concepts and essential skills necessary for work and communication in today's society. Students will learn safety, security, and ethical issues in computing and social networking. Students will also learn about input/output systems, computer hardware and operating systems. Students work with an integrated office software suite called Microsoft Office. Students will learn intermediate Word Processing (Word), Presentation (PowerPoint), and Spreadsheet (Excel) skills.  Students learn the basics of Database Management Systems (Access) as well as Personal Information Management software (Outlook).  Students are also introduced to desktop publishing (Publisher), and video editing software (Movie Maker). Students will also be introduced to digital animation, 3D Design, and programming.

Required Materials: No required materials. We will complete all assignments digitally.

Grading Policy:Student assessment will be based on projects, tests, quizzes, presentations, daily participation and behavior. Progress reports will be provided at approximately the half-way point of each quarter. Grades are assigned based the grading scale published in the student handbook.

Discipline Policy:Students will be expected to follow all classroom procedures and rules. Rules are posted in the classroom and online. Disciplinary action will be consistent with those listed in the Student Handbook and the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).

Future Technology Education:For students interested in learning more about web design, desktop publishing, digital photography, digital video and computer animation, they can enroll as juniors or seniors in our two year Tech Prep - Interactive Media Program. The Tech Prep – Interactive Media program will provide students the opportunity to earn credit at participating colleges in Ohio.
